MHD (continuous) - Battery Solution

The IKA MHD 2000 system provides an efficient solution for the mixing of solids and liquids in a full continuous production environment. This system integrates materials like powders and granulates into liquids, achieving a homogeneous mixture quickly and in a single passage through the device.

Designed to handle solid contents up to 80%, the system thoroughly mixes and pre-disperses the materials without requiring multiple steps. This is made possible by its ability to adjust critical operational parameters, including shear, speed, and dosing rate, to precisely meet specific product requirements.

Applications
Compatible with wide range of battery cell chemistries, including Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC), and Nickel Cobalt Aluminum (NCA). Additionally, it is suitable for semi-dry electrode technologies and includes a ceramic coating for enhanced performance.

Applications in upstream and downstream battery cell production; including precursor formation, lithium refining, active material preparation and any process requiring homogeneous dispersion of up to 80% solids into liquid.

The MHD unit is particularly suitable for applications which meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • The process should largely occur in a single pass.
  • Up to 80% solid concentrations are to be incorporated in a single pass.
  • A reaction occurs immediately after mixing.
  • The liquid phase is already highly viscous.
  • The amount of energy required for the mixing process is to be minimized.
  • The solid is granulated and is to be crushed mechanically as well as mixed.
  • The amount of entrapped air is to be minimized.
