Staufen im Breisgau, April 14, 2026 – IKA Werke GmbH & Co. KG and UniverCell are working together to convert their electrode manufacturing, which has so far been based on wet coating, to a sustainable dry battery technology and to scale it up industrially.
The dry-coated electrodes will then be used in UniverCell's innovative 21700 cylindrical cells, which are characterized by an exceptionally high energy density and extreme performance.
Following several successful tests last year, both companies have formalized their collaboration in a Joint Development Agreement (JDA).
A key role is played by IKA's CONTERNA continuous kneading technology. It forms the basis for the efficient processing and scaling of the dry coating technology.
“With UniverCell we have found the ideal partner for our continuous kneading technology and for the strategic development in the area of scaling and validating industrial processes for the pilot and series production of dry battery electrodes,” explains Marcel Stiegelmann, owner of IKA Werke GmbH.
“We are convinced that this collaboration will deliver the expected results and at the same time further promote the growth and expansion of the German and European supply chain for battery manufacturing.”
Both partners share the goal of significantly advancing the industrial implementation of dry coating and thus making an important contribution to the European battery value chain. By combining IKA's process expertise and UniverCell's know-how in electrode and cell manufacturing, a strong partnership is being created for the next generation of battery production.
